Tips for the Instant Pot split pea soup recipe

  • If you have time, sauté your aromatics (onion, celery, garlic, etc) before adding the split peas, tomatoes, vegetable broth, and the other ingredients, it helps build flavor.
  • You can use an immersion blender in the split pea soup for extra creaminess.

Do we need to soak the split peas before cooking?

Split peas don’t need to be soaked, especially when you cook them in the Instant Pot. But if you want to make sure they will be easier to digest, soak the split peas with a bay leaf overnight. Make sure to rinse thoroughly before adding the split peas to the Instant Pot.

What to serve with the Instant Pot Spit pea soup?

This split pea soup is filling enough to be a meal on its own, but if you’re extra hungry nothing prevents you to serve it with a side salad and some crusty bread for dipping!

Can we make the split pea soup in the slow cooker?

Yes! Add all ingredients to your slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours, or until split peas are cooked to desired tenderness. Add more water at the end of cooking time if you feel the split pea soup is too thick.

How to keep the Instant Pot split pea soup leftovers?

You can keep the spit pea soup leftovers for 3 days in your refrigerator in an airtight container. Reheat in a large saucepan or pot, adding a few tablespoons of water to thin the soup because it will likely thicken once it cools and is refrigerated.
