This easy sausage and broccoli skillet recipe is super nourishing and easy to make - On the table in 25 minutes.
Ingredients you need for the Garlic Butter Sausages and Broccoli Skillet
Directions
1. To make the garlic butter sausage and broccoli: Quickly blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 3 minutes until crisp-tender. Drain and transfer to an ice bath to stop the cooking. Drain and set aside.
2. In the meantime, lay the sausages in a skillet with 1/2 cup water. Cook half covered for 10 minutes on medium heat, turning regularly. When the water has evaporated, add 2 tablespoons butter, half the minced garlic, and red chili pepper flakes and continue cooking for a couple of minutes, until sausages have browned in the garlic butter sauce. Transfer sausages to a plate and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, lower the heat and melt the remaining tablespoon butter. Add chopped parsley, thyme, remaining garlic, Italian seasoning, red crushed chili pepper flakes, and blanched broccoli florets and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring regularly, until cooked to your liking. Deglaze with lemon juice, vegetable or beef stock, hot sauce, and reduce the sauce for a couple of minutes.
4. Add the garlic butter sausages back to the pan with the broccoli and reheat quickly. Spoon the sauce over the sausage and broccoli Adjust seasoning with pepper and serve the garlic butter sausages and broccoli skillet immediately, garnished with more crushed chili pepper, fresh herbs, and a slice of lemon if you like. Enjoy!

What are the different kinds of broccoli
The most common form of broccoli you can find in grocery stores is the Calabrese Broccoli. Note that what is called purple cauliflower is in fact a variety of broccoli. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, filling, nutritious vegetable that goes with almost anything, then look no further than this tried-and-true favorite vegetable.
How to choose and buy broccoli
You can find broccoli at your favorite grocery store, all year round. Choose broccoli heads with tight, deep green florets and firm stalks. The broccoli should feel dense and heavy for its size. Avoid broccoli with dried-out or browning stem ends or yellowing florets. The stem cut should be fresh a slightly moist. When choosing broccoli, you want to look for a lovely green color. The broccoli florets should be closed and tightly packed together, and no wilted or yellow/brown spots. A good fresh broccoli shouldn’t have any odor when you smell it.
How to store broccoli
You should keep broccoli dry in your refrigerator’s veggie drawer. Do not wash it until it’s ready to be eaten. You can keep broccoli in the plastic bag it came in but leave it open so air can circulate. If you’ve purchased pre-cut broccoli or want to cut the broccoli ahead of time, pat the broccoli dry after rinsing and store in a loose container or bag and eat it within one to two days. Don’ wait for too long because it will start to smell bad in your refrigerator after a while. When bought very fresh and left untouched, broccoli will keep up to 10 days, though.
How to prepare broccoli for cooking
When you’re ready to eat the broccoli or cook it, first rinse it off, then cut the florets from the stem or stalk. You can keep the stem and trim off the exterior and get a crunchy, delicious, tender snack. If you’re serving the broccoli raw as a snack or for dipping, you can make it crisper by soaking it in ice-cold water for about 10 minutes.
What is the nutritional value of broccoli?
One cup of chopped broccoli contains about 31 calories, 2.5 gram of protein, less than one gram of fat, 6 grams of carbs, 3 grams of fiber, and less than 2 grams of sugar. You will also find calcium, iron, zinc, riboflavin, folate, vitamin E, K, and zero cholesterol! (Source USDA).
What are the Health Benefits of Broccoli
- Broccoli is super filling: The fiber you get in every serving of broccoli can help keep you feeling fuller, longer and can act as an appetite suppressant. Fiber contained in broccoli is great for keeping your digestive tract healthy and properly working.
- Broccoli is a great diet food: Because broccoli is low in calories, this is one of those foods that you can eat a lot of and absolutely not feel bad about.
- Broccoli is low in fat: Broccoli is nearly fat-free. Thus you have plenty of room left in your diet for other healthy fats, like the ones you’ll get from avocados, eggs, salmon, and olive oil.
- Plenty of vitamin C: Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. It’s crucial in the defense of colds and illnesses and helps to protect you against immune system deficiencies. Good news, broccoli is full of vitamin C!
