How to chose an avocado for the best avocado salad ever
The best way to tell if an avocado is ripe and ready for use is to gently squeeze the fruit in the palm of your hand. Ripe, ready-to-eat avocado will be firm but will yield to gentle pressure. Another tip is to check under the stem of the avocado: If the skin under it is green, it’s ready to eat. If the skin under it is brown, it’s past its prime. But note that when doing that, air enters the fruit and can spoil it pretty quickly. So please, don’t do this at the grocery store. Stock up on firm avocados and let them ripen at home to prepare your delicious avocado salad.
How long to store an avocado salad?
Typical avocado salad doesn’t keep very long due to avocados browning very fast. Keep the leftovers stored in an air-tight container until the day after, but no more. You may have to toss up the avocado salad leftovers to redistribute the dressing before serving. If you want to make it ahead of time, just don’t add your avocado yet, you’ll add it at the very last minute so it stays fresh and green.
