Tips for cooking low carb shrimp recipes

  • When possible buy wild-caught shrimp with a caliber of 16-20 (jumbo or extra-large, depending on the brands), they taste better and you have to prepare less shrimp for the same amount of protein. Think shelling lot of small shrimps versus shelling a handful of large shrimp. Your low-carb dinner will be ready in no-time!
  • If using frozen shrimp, thaw them in cold or lukewarm water (no hot water as it will precook them!) and make sure to pat them dry after you remove the shell. Frozen shrimp can render more water when cooking and you might lose that nice crust when you sear them in the skillet.
  • One good reason we love these little crustaceans in a low-carb diet is that shrimp taste great served with other types of proteins like sausage or steak for a full-fledged surf-and-turf low-carb dinner!
