Chicken breast recipe

Looking for a delicious yet simple chicken recipe for dinner? Chicken breasts tend to have a bad reputation for being dry, or chewy. However, this creamy chicken recipe yields perfectly juicy breasts every time. The cream sauce is full of garlic, caramelized onion, and cheesy flavors. Everyone loves it!

How to make creamy garlic chicken breasts

This chicken recipe is impressive yet very easy to make. Start by seasoning chicken and dredge in flour and parmesan. Cook in a skillet for 4 to 5 minutes on each side then remove to a plate. As we prepare the sauce in the same pan, saute the onion, then add garlic before deglazing with chicken broth. Pour the cream and mix well, then add the remaining parmesan. Add chicken back to the sauce in simmer for 2 or 3 minutes before serving.

1. To make the creamy garlic chicken: Season the halved chicken breasts with salt, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and pepper.

2. In a shallow bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of flour, and 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese. Dredge the chicken breasts in the flour mixture and shake off the excess.

3. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Swirl the pan to coat the bottom evenly.

4. Sear the chicken breasts until golden on each side, until cooked through and no longer pink – about 4-5 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness. Transfer cooked chicken breasts to a warm plate. Set aside.

5. Reduce the heat to medium. Sauté the onion in the remaining oil and chicken juices in the same pan, until softened.

6. Add the garlic and sauté with the onion until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes, then add the chicken broth to deglaze the pan. Scrape up any browned bits and let simmer and reduce to half, about 5 minutes.

7. Reduce heat to medium-low. Pour in the heavy cream. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer for about 2-3 minutes, combining all of the flavors together.

8. Mix in the parmesan cheese and continue cooking for about 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts. Adjust seasoning to your taste with salt and pepper.

9. Add the cooked chicken breasts back into the pan and let simmer for a further 2-3 minutes to thicken the sauce to your liking. The chicken breast will soak up all of the delicious flavors.

10. Garnish with parsley and a little black cracked pepper. Serve the creamy garlic chicken over mashed potatoes, zucchini noodles, rice, or mashed cauliflower. Enjoy! ❤️

Tips for the creamy garlic chicken recipe

  • Thinner chicken cutlets cook faster and evenly. If your chicken breasts are already thin, just use a meat mallet to make them even thick.
  • We use a combination of oil and butter to fry the chicken breast for the best golden browned results and delicious flavor.
  • Cook the creamy garlic sauce in the same pan as the chicken. Keep the browned chicken bits from the bottom of the pan as they add a lot of flavor to the sauce.
  • You can use half and half for a higher sauce. Make sure to simmer on low to avoid curding.
  • The sauce will not thicken immediately after adding the cream. The flour from the cooked chicken breasts will thicken your sauce once you add the chicken back to the pan.

Tips for searing the chicken breasts in the pan

  • Do not overheat the pan before adding the chicken. Cook chicken at a slightly lower temperature for a longer period of time than at a super high temperature which can cause burning and oil splatter.
  • If the chicken breast is sticking to the pan, it means it’s not ready to be flipped yet and is still developing a crispy crust. Allow the chicken breast to release on its own to avoid tearing the surface of the chicken.
