How to cook quinoa
One cup dry quinoa – either white, red or black – will yield about three cups of cooked quinoa. Cook 1 cup of dry quinoa in a saucepan or pot, with 1 3/4 cup of liquid for approximately 20 minutes.
For better tasting quinoa, rinse it under cold water in a mesh strainer to get rid of the saponin. You can cook quinoa in vegetable or chicken broth instead of water so it soaks the delicious flavors. Try adding other spices and aromatics during cooking as well, like garlic, a sprig of fresh rosemary, or a bay leaf.
The good news is that you can cook quinoa in a rice cooker! Use the same liquid-to-quinoa ratio and follow the regular instructions on your rice cooker.
