Tips for the pepper chicken stir-fry recipe

This pepper chicken stir fry recipe is thinly sliced chicken breasts cooked with red and green bell peppers in a sticky sweet-savory sauce. This quick and easy meal tastes way better than take-out! The only time-consuming part of this recipe is cutting up the chicken breasts and bell peppers.

  • Do not add salt as soy sauce is already salty (try to get low sodium soy sauce). Normally, you shouldn’t need to add any salt to the recipe.
  • Try using oyster sauce instead of soy sauce or a 50-50 combination of oyster sauce and soy sauce.
  • We like using green and red bell peppers so that the combination is balanced and not too sweet, but feel free to use yellow or arrange peppers as well.

What cut of chicken is best for stir-frying?

Thinly sliced chicken breasts will work best in this chicken stir fry recipe. You can also try skinless, boneless chicken thighs, but they will render more than chicken breasts.

Should I marinate chicken in the sauce?

We do not marinate chicken beforehand because the sticky sauce tends to burn easily when cooking the chicken. So we prefer cooking chicken frost, then adding the sauce and cook until it thickens.

What to serve with the pepper chicken stir-fry recipe?

You can serve the pepper chicken stir fry with white rice, rice noodles, or cauliflower rice to cut on carbs – as we did in the pictures.

How can I customize the pepper chicken skillet recipe?

You can add a variety of veggies to your chicken stir fry: jalapeno peppers, onions, julienned carrots, broccoli, sweet peas, and baby corn. Some great stir-fry toppings are cashews, peanuts, green onions, sesame seeds, etc…

How long to keep the pepper chicken stir-fry leftovers?

Keep the leftover pepper chicken stir fry in the refrigerator for two days in an air-tight container. Reheat chicken and peppers quickly in a skillet with a few tablespoons of water to loosen the sauce, or use the microwave.
