Bread and butter pudding recipe

Making this easy-to-follow bread and butter pudding recipe is a great way to bring the whole family together! The buttered bread and sprinkling of light brown sugar make the top golden brown and super crisp. We like serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a handful of fresh berries.

How to make the bread and butter pudding

For this bread and butter pudding recipe, we use the British approach, which consists of spreading butter over the bread slices before arranging them in the baking dish. Then we prepare the custard with milk, heaving whipping cream, eggs, vanilla, and sugar. After sprinkling some raisins over the bread, we pour the custard over the bread slices and bake the bread and butter pudding in the oven at 350ºF (180ºC) for 25 minutes.

How to make bread pudding:

1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF (180ºC).

2. Brush the bread slices with melted butter and arrange them in a baking dish, slightly overlapping. Sprinkle with raisins and some light brown sugar.

Tips for the bread and butter pudding recipe

  • You can use any type of bread for this bread and butter pudding recipe. We recommend French brioche, but white bread works great as well.
  • This recipe is a great way to use stale bread and avoid wasting it. It gives a nice contrast of crunchiness in the bread and butter pudding.
  • You can soak the raisins in 2 tablespoons of rum to bring a nice flavor.

How to keep the bread and butter pudding leftovers

You can reheat the bread and butter pudding covered with aluminum foil in a warm oven. It‘s also delicious cold, cut into large wedges. Store the bread and butter pudding leftovers in the refrigerator for up to four days, but it is best eaten within two days. To prevent it from drying out, cover the pudding tightly with plastic wrap.
