The history of the verrine

Do you want to learn how to make verrines? Presentations by pretty and clever associations of textures and flavors, the verrine stimulate the appetite and prepare our palates for the delights of envied French cuisine.

The culinary arts are one indicator of the evolution of our society. If the glasses, skewers and mini-bites of all colors and flavors have become invited to our tables and our celebrations, it is that time is more than ever refinement of small quantities and pleasure of the senses.

Inspired by these great chief cooks, the success of the verrine comes from the fact that this particular young kitchen, in addition to the pleasure it gives us with each new dollop, responds to increasing demands for healthy eating, freshness and balance.

What verrine to choose?

The transparency of glass can enhance the content of the preparations: in a jar, bottle or glass, colors and textures are at the forefront. Glass and plastic containers open a wide range of possibilities in layering materials and color combinations- pieces of fruit or vegetable, meat or fish, may be associated with sauces that line the bottom of the glass, or liquid preparations such as soups, creams, foams or grout. Transparency sharpens the eye before satisfying the curiosity of taste.

Other materials for other effects, the variations can be endless and creative. Wood and bamboo provide some exotic tableware such as plates, spoons, picks, and pans. Place ramekins in warm colors, especially value the colors of the preparations. Porcelain and ceramics, a neutral white, give a modern effect, accentuated by the sleek glasses, spoons and cups.

White gives free choice to play with color and opacity of the material and lends itself to the game of clever compositions with more confusing and less structured mixtures: salads, fondues, sauces, etc. Chinese spoons, also white, are perfect to carry to the lips individual bites, sauces, and Asian-inspired courses.

The mini-tarts, a nod to more traditional fare, call for baking and expand even further the range of possibilities, this time in hot dishes. Mother of pearl and shell, finally, provide another heat, air and vacation paradise: an immediate departure for chic and refined, also with iridescent and very fine spoons.

The art of the verrine?

The choice of ingredients, spices and aromatics, the inventive verrine, light and fragrance, all can seduce your guests. Contrary to popular belief, the preparation of a glass container may not be long. Admittedly, it requires patience and creativity but also enables teachers and homemakers to spend more time with their guests at the table, instead of behind the stove, and offer them a meal with color and flavor. As an aperitif, cocktail, appetizers, entrée, side dish, or dessert, verrine should find a place in your menus throughout the seasons.

Let the fun take the place it deserves in our food today; we no longer eat to live, it is a fact, but we are still looking for sources of pleasure and satisfaction to enrich our lives, and cooking art has its place here.

Because your pleasure comes before pleasure of the belly, think, create, implement and share the various tastes of verrine! Also Read: Tomato, Cheese and Bacon Verrines
