RECIPES FROM EATWELL 101: CHOCOLATE PEAR DESSERT

Chocolate Poached Pears

how to make poached pears with chocolate sauce

Ingredients list:  Chocolate Poached Pears

Serves 4:

  • 4 large or 8 small pears
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (or agave syrup )
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 ounces (100g) of chocolate (cooking quality)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Cooking instruction:  Chocolate Poached Pears

Peel the pears leaving them whole and keeping the stem.
Arrange them in a ovenproof microwave bowl (ideally, a glass container like Pyrex). Add sugar, vanilla and lemon juice.

Close the bowl tightly with plastic wrap a glass lid and put it in the microwave for 8 minutes on high power. Pears will be cooked in steam.

Remove the bowl and remove the plastic wrap/lid being careful not to burn yourself. If you prefer cold pears and if you have time to wait, let them cool at room temperature and then refrigerate.

Just before serving, cut the chocolate into squares. Put them in a bowl and place the bowl in your microwave oven at low power.

Stir after one minute. Put it in the microwave, stirring after 30 seconds and so on until the chocolate is melted and smooth.

Place pears in individual containers, top them with chocolate sauce and add, if you like, a scoop of vanilla ice cream (and whipped cream for amateurs).
