Ground beef dip recipe

It’s an easy ground beef dip that everyone will seriously love. It’s cheesy but uses no dairy besides sharp cheddar, so it’s very flavorful. We use extra-lean ground beef (96% lean meat – 4% fat) to keep the dip low in calories and less greasy – cheese is already enough. You can also spread this beef dip on bread buns to make sliders or sloppy joes. Throw this easy ground beef dip together, and your party guests will be asking for the recipe for sure!

Why you’ll love this ground beef dip

  • There is a great balance between the veggies and cheese: it’s not too cheesy but rich and indulgent.
  • You can make it ahead of time, reheat it, and finish at the last minute – see the tips at the end of the recipe.
  • The dip is versatile and easy to customize: add or switch spices, herbs, or sauce to give it your own twist!

Directions

1. To make the ground beef dip: Place ground beef, jalapeño, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper in a large braiser pan over medium-high heat.

2. Cook the meat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook the ground beef, stirring regularly, until most of the moisture has evaporated and the mixture is crumbly and begins to brown – about 15 minutes.

3. Stir in chicken broth, cornstarch (if using), strained tomato, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Give it a good stir and bring the beef mixture to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium and continue cooking, stirring from time to time, until mixture is thickened, about 25 minutes.

4. Top the ground beef dip with half of the shredded cheddar. Poke cheese down into the dip with a fork, stirring lightly, and top with the remaining half of the cheese.

5. Place pan with the ground beef dip under the broiler and broil until cheddar is browned and bubbly, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle the ground beef dip with red chili pepper flakes and chopped parsley, and serve hot, warm, or at room temperature. Enjoy! ❤️

Tips for the ground beef dip recipe

You’ll love the ground beef dip as it is super the recipe, but here are a few tips if you want to add some twists:

  • You can substitute 2 cups of water or beef broth for the chicken broth.
  • Instead of using the broiler, you can finish the ground beef dip in your oven at 425ºF (220ºC).
  • Feel free to add more spices such as Cayenne or a good drizzle of hot sauce (Sriracha, Cholula…) to the beef dip.
  • Add a packet of taco seasoning to the ground beef dip or a teaspoon of cumin for a nice Tex-Mex flavor.

What to serve with the ground beef dip?

We enjoy this ground beef dip with sliced baguette, crackers, celery sticks, bell pepper sticks, tortilla chips, or as a spread on bread buns. You can also serve the beef dip with a side of rice to turn it into a main course!

How to make the ground beef dip in advance

Do you want to prepare this ground beef dip before your party or game day? It’s easy! Follow the directions, except you do not add the cheese yet. Let the ground beef dip cool down and put it in the fridge. When you’re ready to serve, reheat on the stovetop over medium heat, stirring regularly until heated through. Then add cheese and broil for 5 minutes right before serving.

How to keep the ground beef dip leftovers?

You can keep the ground beef dip leftovers (if any!) in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a cast iron pan on the stovetop or in the oven. You might want to add a few drops of water or broth to loosen the sauce.

This was very tasty!! But there was a lot of liquid with 2 cups of broth. And because of that it took a lot longer to reduce. Other than that this was very yummy and I’ll make it again!!
