Directions

1. To make the fried cabbage sausage skillet: Chop or slice the sausage, cabbage, and onion.

2. In a large non-stick skillet, cook the sliced sausage about 3 minutes until the edges start to brown and sausage renders some fat. Remove sausage from skillet and drain on paper towels if needed. Set sausage aside and wipe the skillet clean.

3. In the same skillet, melt the butter (or heat oil). Add cabbage and sliced onion and cook on medium-high for about 5 minutes, stirring regularly, until cabbage starts to wilt.

4. Add all the remaining ingredients and the pre-cooked sausage as well. Cover the skillet and cook for about 10 minutes on medium-low.

5. Remove the lid and finish cooking until cabbage is desired tenderness and most of the cooking liquid has been reduced. Serve the fried cabbage and smoked sausage immediately, garnished with lime slices and sliced scallion if you like. Enjoy!

Fried cabbage and smoked sausage is such a simple dinner. This is one of our top low-carb / keto dinner swaps for quick meals like regular sausage and mashed potatoes or mac and cheese.

Which sausage works well for this fried cabbage recipe?

We prefer using smoked sausages for this recipe since you just need to reheat them to cook them, making this fried cabbage recipe quick and delicious! We love using Kielbasa because its smoky flavor works perfectly with green cabbage, and it is an easy ingredient to find pretty much anywhere. Other smoked sausage suggestions are: beef, chicken, or turkey Kielbasa style smoked sausages, German breakfast sausages, or Andouille sausage for a delicious spicy twist!

Oh yeah! Please add this to my previous review! I forgot to do the stars. And I forgot to say I used a full pound of smoked sausage.

Everyone loved it! I used both olive oil and butter to cook everything in and left what little fat the sausage created for more flavor. I used sweet grape tomatoes cut in half instead of canned because I figured it would be too much liquid. I also used a whole green bell pepper.I added minced garlic, Italian seasoning and lime juice to enhance the flavor. I've been looking for a delicious smoked sausage stir fry and yours is the winner! Thank you.

way too much liquid, drain the tomato and only do 2/4 of broth

Loved the flavor! I would use less broth or drain the tomatoes but the meal was on point otherwise. Added mushrooms and water chestnuts would be another texture that'd be good.

This is so good except I used a pound of ground pork instead of the smoked sausage

Tomatoes in can made it too sloppy. It didn’t say to drain. Cabbage had to cook a long time!!
