Ingredients For Teriyaki Salmon
Most of the ingredients for making teriyaki salmon are easy to find in any grocery store:
- Salmon fillet: We prefer to use wild-caught salmon for the taste, but you can also use farm-raised. If you buy frozen salmon, let it thaw overnight in your refrigerator before cooking.
- Oil: You can use vegetable oil. Avoid olive oil as it may mask the taste of salmon, and it doesn’t mix well with the flavors of the Teriyaki sauce.
- Low Sodium Soy Sauce: Low sodium soy sauce will cut down on the salt content in this salmon recipe.
- Light brown sugar: Adds sweetness to the sauce.
- Honey: Adds a sweet flavor to the Teriyaki sauce and helps thicken the sauce.
- Rice Vinegar: We use it regularly in Asian-inspired recipes.
- Sesame Oil: Adds a great flavor to the sauce. Toasted sesame oil is also great but use a little less because the taste is very strong.
- Minced Garlic: Use fresh minced garlic, not garlic powder.
- Sesame seeds: You can toast them in a dry skillet for a nice, nutty flavor.
- Green onions: Give a fresh twist to the teriyaki sauce
- Ginger: Fresh ginger always works great.

Tips For Making Teriyaki Salmon
- Sesame seeds are optional in this salmon recipe. We’ve already made it without, and it tastes just as scrumptious.
- Make sure to cut salmon into evenly bite-size pieces to ensure even cooking. This will allow all the salmon to cook evenly without having overcooked pieces.
- Give some time to bring the oil to high heat in your skillet before adding the diced salmon. This will give your salmon a nice sear.
- Be careful not to overcook the Salmon. You don’t want it to dry out and become tough.
- You can season salmon with black pepper before browning, but we wouldn’t recommend adding any salt. Soy sauce is already salty so too much salt would ruin the dish.
- If you like a thicker teriyaki sauce, you can add a mix of 2 tablespoons of water combined with 1 teaspoon of cornstarch.
What To Serve With Teriyaki Salmon
Rice is the best option when serving teriyaki salmon. Rice noodles are also great. Add a few slices of avocado and you’re in Heaven. Regular noodles are another great option and make a delicious teriyaki salmon noodle bowl. You can also serve teriyaki Salmon with some steamed vegetables.
