Are you fed up with bland mashed potatoes? Bring taste and color back! Check out our tips to make it original again!
Add more taste
Use butter and smoked salt, coarse salt, or Espelette pepper. Also add finely chopped garlic, onion or shallot.
Bet on herbs and spices
Flavor your mashed potatoes with parsley, chives, thyme and rosemary. Also remember to use spices such as nutmeg, cayenne pepper, saffron or curry.
Bring a bit of crunchiness
Sprinkle with pumpkin seeds, sesame or poppy seeds. Or fry onions and add them on top of your mashed potatoes to give it more crispiness.
Vary your dairy
Rather than using cow’s milk in your mashed potatoes, add goat milk to create a stronger taste. For a lighter result, use vegetable milk like soy, almond or rice milk.
Celebrate cheese
To make your mashed potatoes totally irresistible, add cheese: Cheddar, Swiss, Blue cheese, Mozzarella… Use cheeses that melt easily when cooked, while developing their flavors. To obtain a lovely golden crust, pass your puree under the broiler to make a gratin.
Add an egg and, many others things
Many seasoned cooks add egg yolks into their recipe. Follow their advice! The potato puree is also ideal for finishing leftovers: ham, chicken breast, chorizo… Kids love it!
Add color
To make your mashed potatoes a more appealing, add color. Use spices such as paprika or bet on vegetables: Add cooked carrots for orange, a little beet puree for rose… And for green version, think about pesto!
