Christmas DIY: Salt & Pepper Walnut Cellars

walnut shell salt pepper cellarsCreating a fantastic and memorable Christmas table is easy, especially by adding a few special touches… just like these individual salt and pepper cellars. They cost practically nothing and only takes a few minutes!

Supplies

  • Walnut shells
  • Sand paper (buy here)
  • White acrylic paint (buy here), or gold paint
  • Brush

Directions

1. Using a nutcracker, carefully open a walnut along its vertical seam.

2. Quickly sand the walnut shells to increase adherence of the paint. Flatten the bottom of the shell by rubbing it on the sand paper to improve stability.

3. Coat the exterior of the shells with a first layer of white paint and allow to dry for 30 minutes.

4. Apply a second coat and let dry. Fill the empty halves with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper for each place setting.
