How to Store your Fresh Herbs

Store Aromatic Fresh Herbs - Fresh herbs CookingTips on how to store fresh herbs - Store Aromatic Fresh Herbs - How to Store and Use Fresh HerbsNothing makes your meals taste better than the freshest ingredients.Do you have chives, parsley, thyme, coriander, and other dried herbs in your kitchen? – read how to grow your herbs – But what about fresh aromatic herbs when you just get them at the market, or someone offers you some fresh sprigs?

Here are my tricks to keep their flavor longer:

  • Roll each bouquet of fresh herbs in 2 sheets of wet towel paper, then put them in a jar in the refrigerator in the least cold area.  Avoid the back wall of the fridge (risk of gel).
  • Basil: to preserve basil, it is best to chop or mix it with virgin olive oil.  Put the mixture into a jam jar in the fridge.
  • Fresh thyme: it keeps for a good week in the refrigerator.  After one week it is preferable to dry it and peel it off in a pot.
  • Freezing is still a good alternative, especially for herbs like basil, chives, and parsley

Remember that if you want to cook lighter, herbs and spices make dishes tastier without adding fat.

If you want something more stylish here is a selection of nice herbs available on Amazon.
