Here’s a cake dessert idea to take out for a picnic. You can quickly prepare this deliciously flavored orange cake and divide it into individual portions to move more easily.
The principle of soaking this orange pound cake right out of the oven gives it a nice consistency, a little wet and luscious flavors reminiscent of childhood.
And you wouldn’t add your own variations with grapefruit, lemon or lime?
Orange cake recipe
Ingredients list for the orange cake:
- Zest of 2 oranges, untreated
- 4 1/4 ounces (120g) butter, melted
- 4 1/4 ounces (120g) caster sugar
- 4 1/4 ounces (120g) flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 packet of baking powder
Orange cake: cooking instructions
For the orange syrup:
- Juice of 2 oranges
- 4 1/4 ounces (120g) caster sugar
1. Preheat the oven to 360°F (180°c).
2. Whisk together the melted butter and sugar then add the eggs and orange peels then finish by pouring the flour and baking powder.
3. Pour the mixture into a silicone mold (or buttered / floured cake pan, or lined with parchment paper for easy removal) and bake for 30 minutes.
4. Prepare the syrup by mixing the sugar with the orange juice.
5. Right out of the oven, pour the syrup over the cake still hot, the volume of syrup may seem too important, but the cake will absorb it and all will be well soaked.
6. Enjoy it warm or otherwise cooled, after a short stay in the refrigerator. It is a pure delight when you eat it very cool!
