The Best Cooking DVD You Have To Start With

After the huge success of Julia and Jacques cooking at home in 2003, a 4 DVDs box set starring Julia Child and Jacques Pépin, the editor PBS was asked to bring back the original cult TV show with Julia.

This wish is now alive as they offer 3 DVDs of practical cooking advice and a bit of nostalgia in a 18-episode culinary collector’s item. The French Chef with Julia Child, the pioneering public television series which premiered in 1962, brought French cuisine to American kitchens without a dash of pretension.

This DVD is the first form a serie of 2 along with The French Chef Volume 2 and The Way to Cook which is more practical and aimed at very beginner cooks (we’ll review this one very soon).

Who Are The People This Product For?

Well as I said above this DVD is not only for people who are looking for a bit of nostalgic and humorous points about cooking, but it is also for people who are cooking beginners and want to learn cooking basics and quickly grow their skills.

In this DVD serie, Julia Child shows perfectly that cooking is a pleasure first and that learning to cook is easy and made of trial and errors. So she takes out all the drama and seems to know what kind of feeling a person who don’t know how to cook can have in front of a counter top full of ingredients and utensils. She shows that anyone can start learning to cook at anytime.

Pro’s of Julia Child – The French Cook DVD

  • Each episode was run in real time from start to finish of the the cooking lesson! You know exactly what’s going on in the kitchen contrary to the over-edited TV shows we are used to watch nowadays.

Con’s of Julia Child – The French Cook DVD

  • One can expect more bonus than printed recipes and PDF files. But for the price you get, it worth it: Nobody ever released this serie before on Dvd.

Let me show you what some home cooks are saying about this Julia Child: The French Cook DVD

“This collection of programs is one of the most interesting I’ve ever seen. Julia Child is a very engaging, intelligent, funny woman even if you have no interest in the food she’s cooking. The world is a poorer place without her. From these 18 programs on 3 DVD I got an excellent foundation of cooking experience that will help me even when I’m just heating up something in the microwave.” Mark Montgomery

“(…) what REALLY makes these programs from the 1960’s and 1970’s impactful is that each program was run in real time from start to finish of the the cooking lesson! Compare that to what virtually every quality cooking show of the past decade has done (particularly on the Food Network), with much editing to move things along and hide the failures! This set is worth every penny.”  Wayne J. Harris

“I highly recommend this set of DVDs. Watching the Julia who I remember from my youth was such a joy. And the dishes she prepares are still outstanding. Kudos to whoever decided to release these shows. There never was, and never will be, anyone like Julia Child. Watching her perform some of her finest is a wonderful experience that can be enjoyed by the entire family!”  Mary Youkin

“This was a great buy, gives young people a peek how things use to be, and reminds os older folk of the same thing. If your not careful you might actually learn how to make a dish or two :) Also I was going to buy direct from PBS, but they wanted 40 bucks for this. got it MUCH cheaper from Amazon.” D. Lecik
